If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Risk Management, we are looking for another City Protection Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in providing direct security support to frontline staff, protecting City assets, responding to situations to ensure workplace safety, conducting investigations and reports, and supporting the Kelowna Security Operations Centre (KSOC). Our City Protection Officers also liaise with appropriate security, bylaw and police personnel, as well as fostering relationships with other external partners and community groups.

This position works weekends and requires Advanced Security Training (AST), or equivalent law enforcement or military training along with Security Patrol and Investigative experience

The City Protection Officer will provide direct security support to frontline staff as well as protection of City assets. Rapid response to situations to ensure workplace safety, conducts follow up investigations and completes reports, and is fully integrated with, and supports KSOC operations.
Duties - Union
  • Provides on-site security presence and support to staff following detection or notification of security issues or safety concerns
  • Engages individuals and resolves issues with additional security or police support, as required
  • Completes detailed and accurate operational and incident reports
  • Reviews incoming and available information from the Kelowna Security Operations Centre (KSOC) to determine trends, patterns or hotspots as well as receiving tasking
  • Patrols areas known to be experiencing ongoing security / safety-related issues
  • Reviews, operates and maintains the City’s video camera system
  • Investigates, reports and provides recommendations related to damage or theft of City assets
  • Supports and backs up the Security Analyst and Security Manager as required
  • Liaises with City staff, participates in meetings and committees
  • Liaises with appropriate security, bylaw and police personnel and develops close cooperation, as well as fostering relationships with other external partners and community groups
  • Monitors trends in the external environment and local affairs that impact the City’s security and risk profile
