A Mechanic Lead-Hand is a working mechanic that assists the foreman with supervising a team of mechanics and other service staff that repair and maintain a wide variety of City vehicles and equipment. The Mechanic Lead-Hand functions as crew lead on operational and/or alternate shifts and supports the foreman with supervising, work planning and service coordination as necessary during regular daily/weekly operations.
Duties - Union
• Assists foreman in supervising, organizing, planning and prioritizing work of mechanics and other staff to ensure a high quality of work, responsive customer service and a safe work environment and practices.
• Provides guidance, instruction and direction to staff and/or contractors to ensure required regulations, policies, procedures and practices are followed.
• Communicates and responds to service requests and inquiries from client departments and external stakeholders.
• Monitors expenditures and helps determine best option regarding repairs and associated parts purchases.
• Authorizes work to be contracted out to external shops and dealers in accordance with established guidelines.
• Performs all regular duties of mechanic and operates all related tools and equipment including standard office equipment.
• Assists with scheduling staff.
• Performs various administrative duties including invoices, time records, safety incident and accident reports.
• Develop work procedures, and assist with orientation and training of staff.
