Purpose of your Position - Non Union | |

Classification Summary - Union | The Landscape Design Technician designs, plans, organizes, supervises and inspects municipal landscape projects. |
Duties - Union | • Prepares landscape design plans for parks and other landscape projects, including conceptual and detailed drawings and specifications for site grading, types of plants and trees, soils, irrigation, parks furniture and other site elements. • Coordinates the Municipal Street Tree and Boulevard Planting Program through site plan reviews, documentation and inspections of installations for conformance with City standards. • Prepares and administers grant applications for various parks projects (i.e. new playground construction, tree planting initiatives, pathways and trails for new subdivisions, etc.) • Works with various community groups and non-profit organizations to identify and negotiate potential partnerships for sources of funding and donations of materials/equipment and volunteer labour for various community parks/green space improvement initiatives; supervises project teams. • Prepares cost estimates for projects to be included in the budget; writes specifications for tender documents and RFPs; monitors costs and budget for specific park construction projects. • Performs on-site inspections of parks development projects through all construction phases; is accountable to ensure conformity with plans and all specifications (i.e. type of plants and trees, soils, irrigation, etc.); coordinates work with other City departments. • Directs and instructs staff and/or contractors on specified parks construction projects. Prepares reports on project costs, deficiencies, schedules, etc. • Ensures that accurate as-built plans are prepared for development projects. • Revises and updates existing park plan records and drawings. • Responds to various enquiries from staff, contractors, developers, planners, community organizations and the general public; develops and implements solutions to problems. |
