Purpose of your Position - Non Union
The Senior Transportation Engineer, under the direction of the Transportation Engineering Manager, undertakes the development of transportation policy, reviews development applications, conducts transportation operations assessments, undertakes planning studies and develops capital projects. This position considers the performance, safety, financial and community impacts of recommendations across a multimodal transportation system. This position’s focus is on the most challenging and complex issues/projects that have significant impacts on the City and its transportation systems.

Diverse and robust transportation technical skills and experience will be required; supported by other members of the City’s transportation team, including traffic technicians, transportation engineers, project managers, and transportation/land use planners, as well as consultants. This position will require strong project management skills to plan, execute, and implement recommendations in coordination with stakeholders. The management of inter-disciplinary technical teams, containing both internal and external (consultant or partner agencies) resources will be required.

1. Supervise the delivery of complex transportation and mobility projects:
  • Collaboratively work with the manager and other staff to plan, scope, and prioritize annual priorities.
  • Generally operating independently, conduct project work in-house or engage consultants to carry out assignments, and report to the manager on project status, issues, and changes in a timely manner.
  • Undertake multifaceted transportation projects, including, but not limited to, consultation, planning, engineering, operations, asset management, conceptual and preliminary designs.
  • Coordinate, review, and manage work done by consultants.
2. Utilize transportation technical skills and experience to guide project processes and outcomes:
  • Effectively utilize a range of engineering and design skills to deliver well-founded recommendations for transportation issues while considering community impacts.
  • Prepare and coordinate technical responses for the public, other city departments, or organizations.
3. Lead effective consultation and engagement with stakeholders, including; developers, citizens, council, and external/internal stakeholders:
  • Attend and lead meetings and open houses with neighbourhood and business associations, developers, affected City departments, and the community
  • Consider appropriate strategies for a diverse range of projects and consultation environments.
  • Compile and assess consultation results. Integrate feedback into the process and initiate follow-up as needed.
  • Effectively communicate technical issues and recommendations to a diverse range of audiences.
4. Collaborate within the department, other departments, and jurisdictions/stakeholders:
  • Circulate information, document comments and obtain/provide feedback on reports and designs
  • Review significant development impacts including TIA review, traffic modelling and local transportation impacts while considering impacts on the transportation network and policy objectives. Provide feedback to other departments and consultants/developers.
  • Provide technical advice to both internal departments, council and external stakeholders
Credentials - Union
Knowledge - Non Union
Engineering Degree with experience in consultation, transportation engineering in urban contexts. Experience with multi-modal systems, as well as experience and formal training in transportation modelling, traffic engineering, transportation design, safety and capacity analysis. This position requires demonstrated experience in project management and understanding of municipal work processes.

Registration as a PEng with EGBC is mandatory for this position.
