Summer Students work in a variety of positions that support parks-related duties to maintain the City of Kelowna’s Parks, Beaches, Sports fields and Urban Forests (Natural Parks) during the summer season.

Employment Dates: Early May through to late August 2024
Hours of Work: 6:00am to 2:30pm (may vary depending on assignment)
Days of Work: Monday to Friday (weekends may be required for some assignments)
Duties - Union
These positions perform a variety of duties depending on the assignment, including:

  • Engagement with public
  • Shrub and lawn care maintenance
  • Litter control
  • Weeding
  • Raking
  • Shoveling
  • Minor irrigation repair
  • Mowing
  • Trail maintenance
  • Line painting

You must be attending school, college or university during the last school term and returning to your studies in the subsequent academic year.

Excellent customer service skills.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Able to work occasional weekends and in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain and perform physical labour.

Able to work with groups of people and work alone using the buddy system.

Horticulture experience and an interest in this field would be considered an asset.

Additional Hiring Information
Job Summary/Basic Function: various parks support activities from weeding, trail work, watering trees and planters, irrigation repair and general horticulture maintenance.

Duties: Natural area maintenance : weeding, trail work
Rough mowing: small engine operation (lawn mower, string trimmer)
Urban forestry: tree planting, watering, weeding.
Irrigation: minor repairs, construction, installation, inventory and audit etc
Parks and Beaches: weeding, leaf and litter pick up, horticultural work

Qualifications: Class 5 DL

Start and End date of the assignment: April 29, 2024 – August 30, 2024

Hours of work: 6:00am-2:30pm

Hours/week: 40

Days/week: Monday- Friday
