Classification Summary - Union | A Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Gas Inspector reviews plans and conducts on-site inspections of plumbing, heating and gas installations, as well as sprinkler and fire suppression systems for compliance with Provincial codes, City bylaws and policies. |
Duties - Union | • Prior to permits being issued, reviews and approves plans and drawings of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional heating/mechanical, plumbing and gas installations, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, City bylaws and policies. • Investigates and reports on site conditions for the plan review staff if information submitted differs from City records or is incomplete. • Conducts on-site inspections of plumbing, gas, heating, ventilation, sprinkler and fire suppression systems during various stages of construction of new buildings, additions of structures, or tenant repairs/improvements. • Explains various code/bylaw requirements, provides field problem-solving, technical expertise, advice and direction to contractors, owners, agents, and project managers regarding specific measures needed to efficiently achieve and expedite compliance with applicable provincial codes and City bylaws (i.e. Gas Code, Plumbing Code, NFPA Standard, Fire and Building Code, City Bylaws, etc.) • Investigates complaints regarding bylaw infractions, unsafe sites or no permit(s). • Issues stop work orders where serious potential code violations, public safety hazards or other project irregularities are evident; informs the Supervisor of the decision in a timely fashion to address sensitive public relations implications. • Responds to various inquiries and provides guidance to the public, engineers, developers, the Fire Department, Bylaws and Water Utility Engineering. • Completes various reports and updates computerized databases and statistics. |
